"no anatomy book can convey
the beauty of the differences in every body"
Veronica Petelin
Most of my work is based on the human form, working in
clay from life models, in the time honoured classical tradition. This
is my study and my obsession.

I find it particularly satisfying to interpret the female
body from the inside out, to redress the balance. There has been too
long a history of male artists depicting the female to a predominately
voyeuristic male audience.
This project has added a new dimension to my practice.
These warm generous women, all prominent in their chosen fields, not
professional models, have been a joy to meet. I know they must have
been nervous as hell, but they did it anyway. They trusted me and had
faith in the intent of the project - a celebration of life, self and
womanhood.

The Bustout Sculptures
For logical reasons, these seven BustOut women have been
cast in plaster, directly on the torso. They were then press moulded in
clay, fired and finished in bronze powders and patina effects.

Being ceramic, the pieces are quite fragile, yet present
with the qualities of strength and endurance, bearing the marks of process
and experience. The bases are concrete, as are all good foundations. The
supporting rods are steel. Strong, yet fine and flexible.
