CGEA Certificates

CGEA (Certificates in General Education for Adults) enables people who have not completed secondary education to bridge their educational gap up to year 12. There are five certificates. This course will improve learners’ literacy, numeracy and general education skills. The certificates have been designed to improve employment opportunities, increase further education possibilities, help better social life and provide opportunities to engage in community activities by studying within an Australian academic framework. It is aimed at young adults aged between 15 and 30 years who are from migrant and refugee backgrounds, but we also encourage mature students to take up the challenge.

 CGEA levels:

  1. 21770VIC Course in Initial General Education for Adults
  2. 21771VIC Certificate I in General Education for Adults (Introductory)
  3. 21772VIC Certificate I in General Education for Adults
  4. 21773VIC Certificate II in General Education for Adults
  5. 21774VIC Certificate III in General Education for Adults

At the lower levels, CGEA covers beginning reading, writing and maths. At the higher levels the reading, writing and maths content more closely resembles school curricula from Years 10 and 11. ESNLC courses are focused on the lower levels in 2012.

It can be expected that it may take a considerable time a student to complete each of the levels in  CGEA. CGEA is offered in TAFE colleges and commercial RTO’s.  At community-based RTOs like ESNLC, that have gained certification by the Australian government, fees are much cheaper than at other institutions.

In 2012 ESNLC courses that lead to CGEA certificates are:

  • 21770VIC Course in Initial General Education for Adults
  • 21771VIC Certificate I in General Education for Adults (Introductory)
