Course in Initial General English for Adults

The Certificate in General Education for Adults consists of five components:

  • Core – Oral Communication Introductory – 20 hours
  • Core Skills – Reading – 45 hours
  • Core Skills – Writing – 45 hours
  • Core Skills – Numeracy and Mathematics – 90 hours
  • Special interest electives – 70 hours
Oral communication includes the developing a learning plan and portfolio with assistance, verbal communication skills, computer skills and basic emergency life support.

 

Assessment

Successful completion of this course requires successful completion of: All core units, 3 Core Skills – Reading, 3 Core Skills – Writing, 2 Core Skills – Numeracy and Mathematics and Special interest Electives. Where a course is not completed, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for any completed units/modules.

Requirements

Selection of participants for General Education for Adults courses (21770VIC-21774VIC) would normally be based on their need to develop literacy, numeracy and general education skills. An interview with the Education Coordinator is required.

Course dates

Next course is due to start in May. This course can be over:

  • 4 days a week, 5 hours a day for 16 weeks or
  • 3 days a week, 5 hours a day for 20 weeks

Note: Delivery could be modified to suit students’ needs. Course minimum student number is 6. Start dates can be postponed. Students will be advised by Education Coordinator.

Price:

  • $280 per term for international students
  • $100 per term for Australian residents
  • $50 for residents with concession card
